This CD is a wonderful collection of smooth Jazz and is filled with memorable melodies and well balanced instrumentation. This group exerts great accuracy and meshes with a strong cohesive sound. The title track, "Endangered Liberties," opens up the CD with a hue of energy as the sultry sax solo swirls around the colorful piano progressions. Listen closely as the expressive instruments build up in intensity on the song, "Gentle Rain." You will feel the ambiance of the rain falling and gradually increasing with strength. Another song, "Vanish," is emotive as the sax passionately plays with a graceful style while the bass, piano, and drums intermingle with rich and mellow progressions. Fans of Jazz music will find the album, "Endangered Liberties," thoroughly enjoyable and well worth listening to.

-Diane and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Project Natale's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites
Overall, this is a distinctive album with its primary use of the Hammond organ as well as the saxophone to create songs that are an amalgam of both past and modern Jazz. If a collection of funky and truly talented jazz grooves sounds like something you would enjoy, then pick up "Organic Matter" by Peter Fraize.

-Sean B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Peter Fraize's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Brian Wilbur Grundstrom: Pepe! The opener, "Cassie" is a spirited song in which Dolan is accompanied by drums as he, at times comically, laments over a failed relationship. "Shades of Grey" is a song in which he sings and talks quickly, yet plays his guitar slowly and soulfully, to create a juxtaposed folk song that is quite entertaining for the ears. "Isabel" is a more traditional folk song, with just Dolan and his guitar, as he shows off his deft vocal talents in a song with emotive lyrics. It is probably Dolan's background as humorous poet that is the reason why his brand of Folk/Rock orbits closely around his voice and words more-so than the average musician, yet this is what gives the album is undeniable uniqueness. If you enjoy vivaciously written folk music or would like to hear what an accomplished poet with a guitar might sound like, then listen to "Patiently" by Jason Dolan as you will find this album filled with new and refreshing compilations.

-Sean B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Jason Dolan's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Where Would I Be" by Dane Riley (R&B Artist from Washington D.C.(DC))

Multi-talented artist Dane Riley and his latest album "Where Would I Be," is a collection of songs in which he writes/performs all of the music and lyrics while fusing the genres of R&B, Soul, Funk, and the Blues with a computerized sound that is well produced and has a dynamic balance. "I Like To Jam" is a groovy number that has great bass and guitar interplay and that is so catchy it might make you want to get up and dance. "Mixin It Up" is a quicker moving song in which we really hear the influence of Funk as Riley shows us some of his talented and pleasantly-effected, guitar playing. "The Bright Side" is a song with a little bit more of a modern flare as it employs a great urban/R&B rhythm. This is an album in which we hear Dane Riley dive into his synthesizer and electric instruments to give us a compilation of songs that subtly blends numerous genres into a danceable product. It is an album that features Dwayne in a variety of slick and crisp sounding Urban R&B/Soul tracks. The track, "Never Say Never" Dwayne shows off his vocal abilities in an emotionally charged slow jam. On the title track, "I'm On My Way" Dwayne keeps the tempo to a slower pace, but it's a song delivered in a more relaxed and jubilant manner while the lyrics are tender and sincere The song, "Persuasion" lets things quicken a little bit in a lively and jumpy number with a beat reminiscent of the mid 90's west-coast sound. This album is perfect for those who enjoy Contemporary R&B/Soul with a focus on a strong male vocalist. This is a greatest hits compilation that takes cuts off their 12 full albums recorded between 1988 and 2008. The smartest move was putting the compilations onto 5 separate CDs, each genre-specific. The first half of the compilation is a lot more groovy and relaxed. For instance, "Forever In A Moment" (from the 'Love Songs' CD) is a great mood-setter with good, slow rhythms and expert saxophone. But my favorite part of the box-set has to be the 4th CD,'P Phunk.' These tracks have a lot of flavor, and vocals with feeling. "Got To Move Something" is an especially good example of the funky beats Plunky has to offer. Having this collector's CD box set is like having a well-oiled machine helping you pick the perfect mood. Whether you want urban groove, cool jazz, love songs, hard-core funk, or Afro world, Plunky & Oneness are here to help with "Plunky & Onesness 2012 Collectors' Box Set."

-Matt M. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Plunky & Oneness's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"SCR Exclusive" by J-Mill (Hip-Hop Artist from Maryland(MD))

Exceptionally creative and talented Hip-Hop/Rap artist J-Mill, runs full throttle with his latest disc, "SCR Exclusive." J-Mill and Streetz Certified Records spins an amazing, well produced album as this disc delivers clean and crisp clarity as the sound tracks never overpower the free flowing vocals providing an extremely well balanced production. Catch the innovating energy that rises up on the song "City Boy" as J-Mill cleverly utilizes a looped background hook from Journey's hit song, "Don't Stop Believin'" which swirls around the sly lyrics that grooves to the beat. The vocal wordplay is tight and this catchy song is definitely tailored for the club scene. Another hit song, "SCR Exclusive" kicks in with strong and powerful synth strings/horns and thumping drum beats as J-Mill proves his ability as a brilliant easy flowing rhymer. If you're a fan of Hip-Hop/Rap, then don't miss a chance to hear the outstanding music of "SCR Exclusive" as these songs offers vocal prowess wrapping around fresh and original, artistic arrangements.

-Sean B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out J-Mill 's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Better Late than Never" by Ron Kemp (Rock/Acoustic Artist from Maryland(MD))

"Better Late than Never" is the newest release from the talented Folk/Rock musician Ron Kemp. The songs on this album for the most part just contain Kemp's warm and inviting voice and his sweet acoustic guitar which gives the production a nice clean and crisp clarity. On this album you can hear undertones of Folk, Bluegrass and Country in Kemp's acoustic styling. "Keepsake" is a slower moving love song in which we can hear Kemp's wonderfully talented guitar picking and strumming skills. On the song, "First-Sight Love," Kemp lets his voice get a little Country as he tells us another love story. "Crocabye Way" is a more fun and uplifting song in which Kemp lets his strumming get a little poppy. While the songs employ different sounds, the album throughout is relatively relaxed and calm. All in all, this entire album works if you are a fan of either love songs sung well or of acoustic Folk/Rock in the way of something like a James Taylor approach.

-Sean B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Ron Kemp's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

Better Late Than Never - It Started Here

Who would've thought that a kid from Congress Heights would end up writing folk rock songs? Well, that's who I am. Sure, I grew up on soul and the Jackson 5ive, et al. But, somewhere in the early 70s, I needed something different. Suddenly, I was hearing music that connected with my young soul, and it has stuck with me through the years. I'm talking Carly Simon, Eagles, James Taylor, Jackson Browne... I started writing lyrics while still in D.C. as a youngster. By the time I moved to Gaithersburg, I had become a pretty decent lyricist. The lyrics were still coming, and I was just stockpiling them. It would be a full twenty years!! before I'd start actually writing full songs.

Fast forward to 1996. I wrote the lyric to First-Sight Love as a spontaneous reaction to this brunette beauty I saw walk into a cafeteria where I ate daily. Poured it out in under 10 minutes. Ran to my room and grabbed my guitar. And, for the first time, I heard music in my head that fit my lyric!! And, on the spot, First-Sight Love was born. And, with the first one under my belt, songwriting became easy for me.

"Better Late Than Never" is a compilation of autobiographical snapshots, with the exception of "Crocabye Way" which is a whimsical journey to place of serenity. All in all, "Better Late Than Never" gives the listener not only a glimpse into the world of Ron Kemp but a keen look into the music of my soul. My influences range from Tom Petty to Jackson Browne to The Eagles to Bruce Springsteen. Sprinkle in a blend of Richie Havens and Darius Rucker, and you'll have a pretty good idea of where my sound derives from. Yet, it's uniquely my own. The melodies are rich, memorable, even hummable. Even at first listen. I borrowed from Tom Petty the notion that simplicity can be very powerful.

"Extinct Is Forever" by Cody & Bj Productions (Kids Artist from Virginia(VA))

Entertaining and educational, "Extinct Is Forever," by the talented Cody & Bj Productions, is comprised of catchy lyrics and beats with pop style. What better way to teach young children about saving wildlife and rainforests than using the gift of music. Hear the sounds of the wild on "Enter the Rainforest/Song of the Rainforest" with the soft and gentle voice of poetry. There will be a smile and happy feeling when you hear "Beautiful Macaw" as it gently moves with tropical flair. Kids won't be able to keep from singing to "Let's Be Friends With The Animals" with its sing-along style and bouncy beats. Sincere and heartfelt lyrics shine on "Imagine" as the vocals gracefully flow over the tender melody. Hailing from the Ivory Coast, Peter One's relaxed and engaging voice imbue his nine original songs with a warmth that cannot be imitated, revealing in sing-along-worthy tunes the universality inherent in the African folk tradition. "Ono On My Mind" has a melody as immediate and lasting as they come, "Yamussokro" uses horns and banjo combination in a completely unique – but utterly African way, and "Hozana" bounces along on an insistent reggae beat. Elsewhere, the traditional "Jukru Lov'," with its orchestral textures, is anthem-like while the title track, "Alesso," a song exhorting native empowerment, resonates with deep conviction. Whether singing in his native language or French ("Ono On My Mind" is the only song in English), Peter One's CD has the gift of universal resonance, a quality that makes "Alesso" an excellent primer of original African folk music.

-Rice B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Peter One's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"500 Miles" by When Thunder Comes (Rock Artist from Washington DC)

A big part of the appeal of the New Wave movement back in the early 80's was the shift away from the bloated AOR sounds dominating airwaves to a simpler, '60's-oriented approach to songs and melody, albeit filtered through a new attitude - as well as a new sonic template, that would eventually shape much of the legacy of '80's rock. On "500 Miles," the latest CD from When Thunder Comes, New Wave is the order of the day in a 12-song collection that is, however, no less contemporary for all of its retro embellishments. On songs like "Good Ole Days" and the title track, "500 Miles," keenly balanced lead and harmony vocals are set off against tasteful synth incursions to flesh out rockers that are both catchy and provocative. Other tracks evoke different sounds of the New Wave era, like "See You In My Dreams," with its almost U2-like slice of ethereal pop, and "Endless Seas," reminiscent of classic Talking Heads. Throughout, though, the band plays with fire and precision, delivering up a set of infectious originals that mark When Thunder Comes' "500 Miles" CD as fitting in this era as it would have been 25 years ago.

-Rice B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out When Thunder Comes's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"These People Aren't You" by Kid Goat (Rock Artist from Washington DC)

Tom Petty once proudly sang about the southern accent where he came from. Well, despite Kid Goat's eastern (DC & PA) origins, that accent imbues everything about Kid Goat's excellent "These People Aren't You" CD, an exploration of roots and alternative country-leaning rock that adds up to Americana at its finest. With Matt Aquiline and Belen Pifel trading off lead singing duties, Kid Goat strikes a nifty balance over 13 guitar-driven songs that alternately rock, swing, and sway. A jangle guitar underpins the hook-filled opener, "Must Be Blind," as the duo harmonize in the best southern tradition, while on "From You," Pifel's delicate country-tinged voice, which is reminiscent of Tift Merritt's, is the perfect vehicle for an memorable, pretty tune. Elsewhere, Aquiline's voice calls to mind the breakthrough BoDeans debut LP, with songs like "Pennsylvania" and "Working World" capturing the rawness at the heart of great rock 'n' roll. All told, "These People Aren't You" is a solid debut CD for Kid Goat; one that knocks down borders in the service of terrific Americana rock.

-Rice B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Kid Goat's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Chocolate Brides Theme Song" by Skip Mahoney and the Casuals (R&B Artist from Maryland(MD))

Layered, smooth-as-chocolate-silk harmonies are the order of the day on Skip Mahoney and the Casuals' 5-track CD, "Chocolate Brides Theme Song," an impeccable R&B ballad as old school as it is modern. Romantic and affirmative, and timeless in its celebration of love and marriage, "Chocolate Brides" is - as its name implies, a unique and soulful paean to the 21st century African-American bride. Delivering five different remixes, Skip Mahoney & the Casuals offer one performance specifically tailored to the old school crowd, another featuring the vocal group S.O.L.E. that's geared to the contemporary R&B fan, one with S.O.L.E.'s neo-soul flourishes, plus two instrumental versions perfect for the dance floor. On all three of the vocal renditions, however, Mahoney's splendid tenor and flights of falsetto proves the perfect foil for group harmonies that recall such R&B stalwarts as The O'Jays or The Spinners. As each generation produces its own particular wedding songs, Skip Mahoney and the Casuals' CD, "Chocolate Brides Theme Song," just might be the perfect wedding disc for the contemporary African-American couple wanting to add a special – chocolate – flavor to their nuptials.

-Rice B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Skip Mahoney and The Casuals's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"The Return Of Funk" by Dane Riley (R&B Artist from Washington D.C.(DC))

Multi-talented solo artist, Dane Riley, has released a new and exciting album titled "The Return Of Funk." Not only does Riley perform on this album, but he also produced, arranged, and composed the entire album. The hours of production time have really paid off with well-balanced vocals and instrumentations. Hints of the musical styles of Prince can be heard on such tracks as "What's My Name?" and "I Came To Party." Riley's lead vocals on the title track "The Return Of Funk" really shine, but he does a great job with the background harmonies as well. Groove to the steady beats of the drums and subtle strings while listening to the slow and moving R&B tune "Meant 2 Be." If you're in the mood for a little R&B or funk then Dane Riley's "The Return Of Funk" is a must-have addition to your CD collection.

-Diane and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Dane Riley's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Yes We Can - Obama's Dance Anthem" by DJ Coz (Pop/Electronica Artist from District of Columbia)

DJ Coz has skillfully arranged a patriotic single, "Yes We Can – Obama's Dance Anthem," with grooving dance beats. Coz sends a motivational message of inspiration using selected lines from President Barack Obama's recent historic speeches. There is a great loop effect on the chorus of the song with subtle, yet bouncy synth strings on the verses. Various clips of Obama's speeches are eloquently synced to the rhythmic beats of the drums. "Yes We Can" and "Change is Coming" are just a few of the unforgettable quotes Obama made during his campaign and they will live on forever both in history and in this song. As a skilled artist of the house music genre, Coz has spiked up the mood with this dance single and is a great listen for any house fan or any voter who was won over by Obama's memorable speeches.

-Diane and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out DJ COZ's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Excellent Distraction" by Miles Stiebel (Jazz Artist from Washington D.C.(DC))

Notable band leader, Miles Stiebel, proves he is one of the most sought after musicians in his field with "Excellent Distraction." This album is a vibrant mix of emotionally charged jazz instrumentals, covers, and some of Stiebel's originals. Not only is he a well known band leader himself, but the disc was produced by Grammy nominated Bob Dawson and mastered by Grammy winner Ted Jensen (who has also worked with Norah Jones). Stiebel shows us what he does best on "Sir Duke," the first single off the record that strays from the typical jazz progressions and offers up a little bit of funk. Although the violin is not common in most jazz records, Stiebel uses it generously on many tracks such as "Midnight Fifty." The addition of the violin provides a rousing country feel to what could have been just a typical jazz number. Although Stiebel already has many fans, "Excellent Distraction" will be bringing in many more.

-Shaun H. and the RadioIndy Reviewer Team
Check out Miles Stiebel 's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Ugly Beautiful" by Lachi (Pop Artist from New York City, New York(NY))

Pianist and songwriter Lachi, ornately blends the sounds of contemporary jazz with early '90's pop/rock with a wonderful result. Don't let the word jazz fool you, "Ugly Beautiful" is more of a pop record than anything else. The small hints of Diana Krall are very nice and fit well within Lachi's songwriting structure. One of those jazzy standouts is "Broke My Heart" which also highlights Lachi's talent for piano playing. The pop influences, a la Alanis Morrisette, come into play on the opening track "We Can Fly." The expression Lachi delivers when singing or speaking her lyrics and the tone of the guitars captures what was once a great time for music, the early '90's. If you are looking for something reminiscent of that period in music or just want to hear some good, female fronted piano rock, then "Ugly Beautiful" is a CD well worth hearing.

-Shaun H. and the RadioIndy Reviewer Team
Check out Lachi's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Unforgettable Soweto" by Jay Lou Ava (Jazz Artist from District of Columbia)

Releasing his latest album "Unforgettable Soweto," artist Jay Lou Ava gives the listener an outstanding collection of his latest compositions. L'illon fuses the musical worlds of pop and Latin music together very well, setting the scene for a very ethnic influenced album. The instruments are very supportive, as they accompany the vocals with flavorful riffs and solid chord progressions. "Old Blues Song" has classic troublesome lyrics, giving this tune a melody sung in true blues style. Mr. Cooper has a very long resume and certainly brings his best to this piece of work. The album's concept is for an oceanic feel, and the mission is accomplished. One can almost hear the sound of the ocean even though it's not there. The arrangements are very strong and the musicianship is superior. The sound quality is very clear. This CD is a work of well-crafted love songs, conveying the ups and downs of being in relationships through straight-forward, poetic lyricism. The depth of feeling Jerry is capable of putting into his music is best displayed on the somber, yet sincere ballad "I'll Never Love Again." Moreover, Jerry's feeling of joy is contagious on the string-infused "I Can't Believe I'm Yours." The female background vocal arrangements on this tune do a great job of accentuating the lead vocals. Furthermore, "Marriage Seed" demonstrates the superb musicianship present on this CD through its graceful keyboard intro. What's more, the clarity of sound allows these tunes to shine in their true glory. It is a refreshingly intriguing album of "the bizarre". One noteworthy asset of this collection is its sensible diversity. Although primarily instrumental, this CD gives you a great deal of sounds and styles for your ears to enjoy. The arrangements are intelligent, highly energetic and very creative. You'll hear a lot of classic synths intertwined with new and innovative sounds. If you enjoy the tonal quality of Joni Mitchell and the soothing vibe of Afro-jazz, you'll enjoy this one.
-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Siya Jika's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"East Wind" by Timothy Cooper (Instrumental artist from Washington DC)

Solo Pianist Timothy Cooper brings you "East Wind," an album of deep concept and delicate intimacy. Mr. Cooper has deep convictions about music and truly enjoys the piano's ability to take you to a different place. The sound and arrangements are vast, weightless and deep. The album is great whether you are looking to relax, or tune up your mind. Timothy is an accomplished player and one can surely appreciate his attention to detail. Highlights are "East Wind", making you believe that there are oceans in the desert with its wet, yet dry sound. "Bird Flight" is a beautiful progression and is very uplifting. "Bamboo Forest" is quite dramatic and brooding, but seems to fit into the mix. If you like solo piano compositions and music fit for relaxation and retrospect, you'll love this wonderfully-produced collection.
-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
Check out Timothy Cooper's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites

"Light On The Water" by Timothy Cooper (Instrumental artist from Washington DC)

"Light On The Water" by Timothy Cooper is a solo piano album with a peaceful state of mind. Highlights include "Rising," a very dramatic piece that still manages to adhere to the concept. The title track "Light on the Water" is uplifting and the twinkly arrangement will bring a smile to your face. "Solstice" has a bit of oddity in it and is very noble. The songs are all upbeat and very danceable. The vocals are intimate with tremendous sex appeal. The style and quality of Dane's voice is very reminiscent of Prince. There is a delicacy about this classic 80's sound. Lots of classic synths. Overall it's a fun dance, party album. Highlights are "Together" with a soulful vocal performance, quirky arrangement and a thick beat. "I Am The DJ" features some cool rhythms and styles. "Lift You Up" is super funkified with a grooving bass line.
